Events are the best way to meet new people and get to know your new home for the next few years. This is your go-to page for all Freshers’ events, so go ahead and explore! From York’s biggest bar crawl to a Self-Care Fair and a Comedy Night - there is something for every single one of you. And don’t forget to grab your tickets while you’re here!

Freshers' events are provided by both your college and us.

Your college ticket grants you entry to all the events they host during your first week. After that, you have the freedom to choose what else to go to!

Many of our events can be purchased individually or, if you’re a bargain hunter, take a look at the College x YUSU bundle tickets. This bundle includes all of the events in your College’s Freshers’ Week as well as Comedy Night, Fight Night, and Viking Raid at a discounted price compared to if you purchase all tickets individually.

COLLEGE FRESHERS' EVENTS

From Friday 15 September

As part of Freshers, your college hosts loads of events to welcome you into the college community, meet new people, and get to know York. These events happen alongside the events that we put on, so you have plenty to choose from. Take a look at your college events to see what’s on offer and buy your tickets!

COMEDY NIGHT

Monday 18 September, Central Hall, 7.30pm

We are excited to announce that this year’s Comedy Night lineup is… *drum roll please*

Taskmaster fan-favourite Fern Brady, Mock The Week’s Olga Koch, and comedian and drag king Jodie Mitchell! Grab a drink, sit back and have a laugh.

Tickets are available to staff and all year groups and can be bought individually or as part of the bundle.

ACCESS ALL AREAS

Wednesday 20 September, YUSU Bars, 7pm onwards

Come and explore all five of our bars and our coffee shop, so you know your favourite places to go before term starts! Get a feel for each venue’s vibe (and the amazing deals they have to offer). Don’t fancy a drink? The Kitchen is alcohol-free and will be serving up late-night coffee and soft drinks for you to keep on socialising.

This event is included in College Freshers’ tickets. Individual tickets are not available.

Freshers’ Fair

Saturday 23 September, Campus West, 10am-4pm

An absolute staple event for Freshers where you’ll be able to meet all of YUSU’s societies, volunteering projects, sports clubs, and media groups. Here, you can discover which extracurricular activities you want to do at university. That’s not all though- we’ll have a vintage clothes sale and free pizza from Domino’s, and loads of national and local businesses with freebies for you too!

You don’t need a ticket for our Freshers’ Fair which is free to attend.

Film Night

25 September, Central hall, doors open 6:30pm

Ratatouille on the big screen! That’s right, your favourite foodie rat is coming to campus for Freshers’ 2023 Film Night. So bring your popcorn, wear your comfiest clothes, and spend a fun evening in Paris - all from the comfort of campus.

This event is not included in College X YUSU bundles and a ticket for this event will need to be purchased separately.

Self-Care Fair

Wednesday 27 September, Campus East, 11:00am

Decompress after a busy week of getting to know York! Do a bit of yoga and scrapbooking, before grabbing a bite to eat with YUZU Street Food. But don’t forget to play with our therapy dogs and grab a doughnut from Project D too! And there is plenty more to explore. We’ll also have local performers soundtracking your Self-Care - what’s not to love?

This event is free to attend, but you will need to buy or reserve a ticket to attend specific sessions within the event. This event is not included in College X YUSU bundles.

Viking Raid

Thursday 28 September, YUSU Bars then venues in the city, 6pm onward

York’s biggest bar crawl is back! Join 3,000 other students in York’s best bars before ending your night in a club in the city centre.

Fight Night

Friday 6 October, Central Hall, doors open: 7:00pm

Watch the University's finest contenders face off in the ring at a night filled with heart-pounding excitement and historic victories! Live music performers will keep you entertained in between bouts for an unforgettable evening. Bring your A-game to the red carpet and strike a pose at our dedicated photo booth, capturing picture-perfect moments from your Freshers’ experience. Don’t forget to dress to impress!

(they’re called Sabbatical Officers, or ’Sabbs’ for short!)

Hi! We’re the Sabbs - we’re student representatives elected by you and we work all year round to fight for the students’ interests and for causes close to your hearts in all areas of university life. We’re here to make sure the York experience is the best it can be. You’ll see us a lot throughout Welcome Week, so come and say hello!
